A Japanese developer has created a free Chrome extension called Cat Gatekeeper that sends a giant orange cat onto your screen when you’ve been scrolling social media for too long. Once the cat appears, it takes over the entire page and refuses to leave until your break timer runs out. Users can set a custom time limit and choose which platforms to monitor, with support for X, Instagram, , YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Threads and Bluesky. The timer only counts when the social media tab is active, so switching to another tab pauses the clock. When time is up, the cat appears and blocks all interaction until a five minute break is complete. The developer, who goes by ZOKUZOKU on X, shared a demo video that has since racked up over 4.5 million views and 120,000 likes. The extension is free with no ads, and the developer confirmed that no user data is collected.
