Message! I’ve struggled with social anxiety in the past, even though I genuinely LOVE people and care deeply about social justice. When I was younger, I tried to suppress my need for alone time and independence by drinking alcohol and partying. I wanted to be seen as fun, social, and easygoing, even though my depression often showed up as irritability. I've since chosen to be sober. As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned balance. I still value community, but I’m often happiest in small groups or one-on-one connections where things feel deep. Some people have projected unrealistic versions of me—putting me on a pedestal or assuming I don’t struggle with my own need for healing —and that’s been tough. I’ve had to accept that not everyone will like me, and I won’t like everyone either 🤣. And that’s okay. I can still fight for equality while honoring who I am and how I move through the world.
