Don’t weep for Charlie Kirk. Weep for his family. Weep for his friends. Weep for his enemy. Weep for our culture. But don’t weep for Charlie, emulate him. Charlie gave his life to Jesus. Read that again. He GAVE his life to Jesus. He admitted he was a sinner, he believed Jesus died for his sins and he confessed Jesus as his savior…which he did as well or better than anyone I’ve ever heard- ever. And as a believer in Jesus, he knew that his life was no longer his own. He was bought with a price. He no longer belonged to himself- he belonged to Jesus…as his conduit, his instrument, his inheritance, his hands and feet and eyes and ears and voice through which the Spirit of God could be delivered to those who needed to hear the truth and decide for themselves to either walk in the light or the darkness- their choice. Charlie knew that Jesus said in John 15:18-19, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." Charlie knew Jesus had chosen him…and don’t you know he also knew the world forces of darkness were not going to be happy hearing words of life? Yet, he still shared them, often in the most hostile of locations, because he knew that even those who rabidly hated him were also created by God with a divine purpose and plan in mind. They also had the ability to find freedom through the same spirit that filled Charlie…we all do. Our conception might have been an accident, but our creation was not- we all, each and every one of us, even the guy who pulled the trigger, still have the opportunity to be delivered from darkness to light, from bondage to freedom, from death to life. Don’t pick up a weapon to avenge Charlie’s death, pick up the mantel. Take seriously your responsibility as an ambassador for Christ to boldy and confidently share with others the only thing that will transform their life- the love of Jesus Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant. My heart breaks for your family and friends but it rejoices in your courage and your sacrifice to lead others to freedom. May I have the courage to do the same.
