Over the last two years we completely gutted our forever home, taking the house to the studs. My priority in rebuilding our home was to ensure that we added character. We didn’t want a builder grade home and wanted it to feel like us. We didn’t have the budget for an interior designer, so it was up to me to bring our vision to life. Here’s how I did it and what you can do to do the same! 1. Choose a style whether it is traditional, modern, transitional, farmhouse, etc and run with it. I chose traditional! This will be important when you start looking for inspiration. 2. I created a folder for each room in our house and started saving pictures from Pinterest using key words such as “traditional bathroom” and posts from interior designers that I loved, to each folder. 3. I chose elements from each picture and started piecing them together to create my own room. For example, for this area (bathroom + mudroom), I had saved 4 inspiration pictures. I took elements from each one of them to create this look. The 1st picture had this wallpaper and beadboard in it. The 2nd picture had a picture of subway tile with picture frame molding in it which we used for the shower. The 3rd picture had a beautiful stain glass window in it that I had made (which can’t be seen from this angle). The 4th picture was of a mudroom that had a v groove ceiling and bluestone flooring. I put all of these elements together to create our mudroom and downstairs bathroom. 4. Google image was very helpful in finding sources for me! Believe it or not I didn’t even know this was a feature I could use until I saw a wallpaper on an interior designers instagram page that my daughter wanted for her bedroom. The interior designer couldn’t share the source so I scoured every wallpaper website I could find for weeks. Then, someone mentioned google image to me and I found it within seconds. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤯 5. Don’t be afraid to have things custom made! I found that bathroom vanities on the market were double the price of having one made to your specifications and taste. This particular vanity was custom made from a seller I found on Etsy who shipped it across the country and was very reasonably priced!
