Here's how to climb the Donnerkogel Via Ferrata (official name). 1️⃣ Fly: Head to Austria 2️⃣ Housing: Stay in Gosau (the best hub for lodging, restaurants, public transportation) or Steeg‑Gosau. 3️⃣ Rentals: Rent via ferrata gear in town (mandatory to climb!) Plan ahead so they aren't sold out. 4️⃣ Transport: Take the train to Steeg‑Gosau station. Then catch Postbus line 541/542 (sometimes also labeled 2570) to the Gosausee stop near the valley station of the cable car. 5️⃣ Cable Car: Buy tickets and take the Gosaukammbahn cable car to the top station. A round‑trip ticket costs ~€21. 6️⃣ Hike to Gablonzer Hütte: A 10 minute walk to the start of the via ferrata 7️⃣ Start Climbing: Clip in and follow the cables! Climbing takes about 3-4 hours depending on crowds. 8️⃣ Descending: Hike down via trail 628 to reconnect to trail 611 and return to the cable car upper station (or to the hut if you prefer).
