There are measurements for all people throughout life. That said, we put too much pressure on our kids, particularly at such young ages, to fit ideals that are difficult to obtain and likely not that advantageous. The grading system in schools has long been scrutinized, and likely for good reason. At the end of the day, a 4.0 GPA is great, but not if it creates perfectionism or causes someone to feel like a failure if they get a B. Standardized testing has become overemphasized with little evidence that high scores can or should lead to high performance in the real world. Academic success is great, but it shouldn't supersede learning and the excitement around it. Hardly any children enjoy school anymore, and it's no surprise when you look at what we emphasize. This evaluation mindset is so ingrained, it extends outside of schooling to a general analysis of our children.
