A total of 682 people dressed in dinosaur costumes gathered at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, smashing the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs. The previous record of 468 was set by the Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, Florida last year. The attempt took place on Saturday as part of the university’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Professors, staff, students and children showed up in everything from dinosaur onesies to full inflatable costumes, gathering outside the Taylor Family Digital Library on campus. A few dogs even turned up in dino outfits, but they didn’t count toward the total. A Guinness adjudicator was on site to verify the record, counting each participant one by one before confirming the new number. The crowd erupted into “”We Are the Champions”” by Queen once the result was announced. The university’s sports teams are already called the Dinos, so this one felt like destiny.
