She indicates that our job is to both set the boundary and validate the feelings of the child. Where she may lose some parents is where she indicates that the child's "job" is to have and express the feelings that are associated with what many would call "bad behavior." She states that managing feelings starts when a child is allowed to have feelings and that those feelings are validated. It's important to note that validating feelings has nothing to do with whether or not the boundary is enforced. We still need to enforce the boundaries, but we need to be validating our children's feelings and experiences as well.
