: Canada’s sovereign wealth fund. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Monday that the federal government would establish a new fund that will finance major projects of national interest. Carney said the Canada Strong Fund will start with an initial endowment of $25 billion and that Canadians will be able to contribute to and benefit from the fund. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre criticized Carney for using borrowed money to endow the fund, saying countries need to have wealth for a wealth fund, but all Canada has is debt. Poilievre said projects in Canada are struggling to get funding and investment from the private sector because of onerous regulations and laws that frustrate development, not because of a shortage of cash.
