Simply stated, our children are immature creatures. They have underdeveloped brains and very limited skills for navigating the real world effectively. When we don't overthink it, this is rather obvious, and applying this framing for our children enables us to have a lot of grace for our kids. But society is always telling us how important it is to keep our kids in line, and that a disruptive child is a bad child. We've been led to believe that tantrums are horrible, and that an upset child in public is one of the most mortifying things that can happen to us as adult humans. We've lost our way here a little bit. Our children are actually responsible for very little besides being a child and learning, over time, how to be a productive and capable person. Your child has needs. They are totally dependent on you. Don't lose sight of that just because society seemingly has.
