Of course, I knew that babies weren't able to effectively understand something like object permanence, but it's still crazy to think about the depth of interaction through something like peekaboo and how it impacts them. We're constantly exposing our babies (and children) to new experiences and ways of thinking. We're literally impacting how their brain is wired. And it's really cool to hear that these mini-exposures to a person disappearing and reappearing can help a child to understand that when the parent disappears, it doesn't mean that they won't return. The implications of this are very real, especially when you consider how often we leave the room to do or get something. That wiring can help the child to feel a level of safety, even when they can't see their parent. And that's really cool. Share this post with another parent who needs to hear it!
