Now we unconsciously borrow the nervous system of others around us all the time. Even as adults. If your partner is incredibly stressed, you feel that. And it impacts you. If they were joyful and silly in your presence instead, your body and mind would feel different. But I love this analogy. Your children are the passenger. You are the flight attendant. But instead of our children checking in on the flight attendant only during turbulence, your kid is almost always checking in on the caregivers in their life. They desire proximity and closeness. So, they will be near you often. And they are trying to understand emotions and regulation through interaction with us; it's called co-regulation. And they are doing it all the time. If you can be the sturdy, composed flight attendant more often than not, your child will experience more calm and greater regulation as well
