Five middle school students in Hancock County, Mississippi saved the lives of everyone on their school bus after driver Leah Taylor, 46, suffered an asthma attack and passed out behind the wheel on a four lane highway with 40 kids on board. Onboard footage released by the Hancock County School District shows Taylor slumping over as the bus kept rolling. Twelve year old Jackson Casnave, sitting directly behind her, grabbed the steering wheel to stop the bus from swerving. Another student stomped on the brakes. McKenzy Finch, 13, held Taylor’s head steady and used the driver’s phone to call the school district. A fourth student dialed 911, and a fifth administered the asthma medication Taylor had been holding when she collapsed. Taylor made a full recovery and said she will think about what those kids did for the rest of her life. “I can’t thank these students enough for saving everybody’s life because it could have turned out so much worse.” The five students, McKenzy Finch, Jackson Casnave, Darrius Clark, Kayleigh Clark and Destiny Cornelius, were honored at a school pep rally that Friday.
