A six week old kitten was found trapped in a bucket of industrial glue and rushed to the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth on March 31. The adhesive had hardened over his entire body from head to tail, sealing his eyes and mouth shut and leaving him unable to eat, drink or breathe properly. Veterinarians said he was minutes away from dying. When olive oil and dish soap failed to break down the glue, a shelter employee ran to the store and bought nearly two gallons of canola oil. The team spent hours massaging it into the kitten's fur until his gray and white coat finally appeared underneath. Staff named him Elmer, after the glue brand, and he quickly became the shelter's most famous resident. Hundreds of people applied to adopt him after his story went viral. In the end, Elmer went home with his foster mom, 72 year old Leah Owens from Azle, Texas, who said the kitten filled the void left by her husband Roger, who passed away from cancer last October.
