If I’m being honest, I’ve never really been much of a dater. In the 13 years I’ve been single, I can probably count the number of first dates I’ve been on with one hand. I always thought it was because I was picky… but maybe it was also because, deep down, I knew what I deserved. That said, I’ve still accidentally let a few people into my life recently who didn’t really deserve to be there. People who said all the right things, made me feel seen for a moment, and then disappeared when it came time to actually show up. And for a while, it hurt. Because it made me question myself… like maybe I was too much, too independent, too me. But what I’ve realized is they didn’t love me. They loved the idea of me. The version they built in their heads. And when it came down to actually loving the whole of who I am.. flaws, strength, softness, independence, dreams..they couldn’t do it. So, I took a step back. Focused on myself. My health, my happiness, my growth. And I feel lighter. Happier. Stronger. Like myself again. And maybe one day, someone will come along who doesn’t just like the thought of me, but loves me fully, exactly as I am. But until then, I’m good. Better than good, actually.
