There’s a moment in the Bible that still messes me up every time I read it. Three men. A king with an ego. A furnace turned up seven times hotter than it needed to be. Shadrach. Meshach. Abednego. They didn’t argue. They didn’t beg. They didn’t try to negotiate with fear. They said, “Our God is able.” And even if He didn’t? They still weren’t bowing. That’s faith with no safety net. They were thrown into the fire bound. Bound by ropes. Bound by accusations. Bound by other people’s opinions. And here’s where it shifts. The king looks again and says, “Didn’t we throw THREE men in there?” Because now he sees FOUR. Not burned. Not screaming. Not panicking. Walking. The fire didn’t kill them. It introduced them. The Fourth Man didn’t keep them out of the fire. He stepped into it with them. That part right there… that’s the gospel. Because some of us are praying for God to pull us out. And God is saying, I’ll meet you in it. You’ve been in a fire that nobody clapped for. A season that didn’t make sense. A heat that exposed everything fake around you. You lost people. You lost comfort. You lost versions of yourself you thought you needed. But look closer. What burned wasn’t you. It was the ropes. The fire didn’t touch their hair. Didn’t scorch their clothes. Didn’t even leave the smell of smoke. But the thing that held them bound? Gone. Some of you are walking free because of a fire you never asked for. The rejection was fire. The sickness was fire. The betrayal was fire. The waiting was fire. The silence was fire. And the whole time Heaven was standing right there saying, You’re not alone. I never left. I was closer than you realized. You didn’t lose your mind. You didn’t lose your faith. You didn’t lose your purpose. You met the Fourth Man. And when they came out, they didn’t come out the same way they went in. They went in tied up. They came out walking free. If you’re in the fire right now, don’t rush it. Don’t curse it. Don’t bow just to escape it. There’s a testimony being forged in the heat. There’s a freedom burning loose. There’s a presence in that fire that can’t be found anywhere else. Sometimes God doesn’t save you from the fire. He proves Himself in it.
