Honestly, before we started traveling I didn't know much about this country. So if you are like me, here is a brief overview. 👉 It's the only Portuguese speaking country in all of Asia! (Portugal historically used this area as a port back when they ruled the seas.) 👉 It is also the only majority Christian country in Asia. Just in 2024 the Pope even came to visit Timor-Leste! 👉 It's the youngest country in Asia. Up until 1975 it was controlled by Portugal. Then it was occupied by Indonesia, leading to a deadly war, where nearly 1/3 of the country's population died. In 2002 it gained it's official independence. 👉 Some unbelievable scuba diving is here! It is home to some of the most biodiverse waters and beautiful coral.
