This explanation by Dr. Becky is one of the best I've seen in breaking down the impact on our child. Our children see us as their leader. They often see us as right, even when we're wrong. If we consistently make mistakes and don't remedy them, they will believe, by default, that they are the problem. They won't learn to trust themselves, and they won't learn how and when to apologize in a productive, relational way. Being treated poorly, particularly when it's unfair is hard. But never getting a follow-up that acknowledges that unfair treatment can be life-altering in a really damaging way.
