Pod Roles and Permissions
Roles and permissions form the foundation of pod access control, enabling granular management of member capabilities and channel access. Replyd messenger provides comprehensive role and permission systems including role hierarchies, custom roles, granular permissions, and channel-specific access controls designed to support complex organizational structures and security requirements.
Default Roles: Understanding Built-In Role Structure
Pods include default roles including Owner (highest hierarchy, full control), Admin (administrative capabilities), Moderator (moderation capabilities), and Member (standard participation). Owner role is assigned to pod creator and cannot be removed. Admin and Moderator roles can be assigned to trusted members, and all members receive the default Member role. Roles can be customized with different permissions and hierarchies to match your community's needs.
Custom Roles: Creating Roles for Your Community
Create custom roles with specific names, colors, icons, and permissions to match your community's organizational structure. Custom roles can be positioned in the role hierarchy above or below other roles, determining permission precedence. Assign custom roles to members based on their responsibilities, contributions, or community standing. Custom roles enable flexible organizational structures that match your community's unique needs.
- Role Hierarchy: Position roles in hierarchical order with higher roles inheriting permissions from lower roles
- Granular Permissions: Configure specific permissions including Manage Pod, Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Kick Members, Ban Members, Manage Messages, Create Channels, Send Messages, Manage Voice, and Mention Everyone
- Role Colors: Assign colors to roles for visual identification in member lists and messages
- Role Icons: Add icons to roles for enhanced visual identification and organization
- Channel Permissions: Override pod-level permissions with channel-specific permissions for granular access control
- Permission Inheritance: Higher roles automatically inherit permissions from lower roles in the hierarchy
- Role Assignment: Assign roles to members individually or in bulk based on responsibilities or contributions
- Permission Auditing: View permission configurations and role assignments for transparency and accountability
Roles and permissions are essential for maintaining organized, secure pod communities. Our role and permission system provides the flexibility and granularity needed to support complex organizational structures while ensuring that members have appropriate access and capabilities. Well-configured roles and permissions lead to better organization, clearer responsibilities, and stronger communities.
Permission Types: Understanding Capability Controls
Permissions control what members can do within pods and channels. Manage Pod permission allows pod configuration changes. Manage Channels permission enables channel creation and modification. Manage Roles permission allows role creation and assignment. Kick Members and Ban Members permissions control member removal capabilities. Manage Messages permission enables message deletion and moderation. Send Messages permission controls messaging capabilities. These granular permissions enable precise access control.
Channel-Specific Permissions: Overriding Pod-Level Settings
Configure channel-specific permissions that override pod-level permissions for granular access control. Set channels to be accessible only to specific roles, restrict messaging capabilities, or enable special permissions for certain channels. Channel-specific permissions allow you to create private channels, read-only channels, or channels with restricted capabilities while maintaining different permissions elsewhere in your pod.
Role Management: Assigning and Managing Roles
Assign roles to members through member management interfaces, where you can select members and assign appropriate roles. Roles can be changed at any time, and members can have multiple roles with combined permissions. View role assignments, audit permission configurations, and manage role hierarchies through comprehensive role management tools.
