Managing Your Whistlr Account
Your Whistlr account serves as your digital identity across the platform, encompassing your profile, preferences, security settings, and activity history. Effective account management ensures that your Whistlr experience is personalized, secure, and aligned with your preferences. Understanding account settings empowers you to customize your experience, protect your privacy, and maintain control over your digital presence.
Profile Customization: Building Your Digital Identity
Your Whistlr profile is your public face on the platform. Customize it with a profile photo (recommended 400x400px minimum), cover image (1500x500px recommended), bio (up to 500 characters), location, website link, and interests. Verified accounts display a blue checkmark badge. Business accounts show additional information including business category, hours, and contact details. Plus subscribers can customize profile themes and access extended profile features including additional media slots and custom URLs.
Accessing account settings is straightforward: tap your profile icon, select Settings, and explore the comprehensive options organized into logical categories. Settings sync across all devices, ensuring consistent experience whether you're using mobile, desktop, or web. Changes take effect immediately, and you can preview how profile changes appear to others before saving. Regular review of settings ensures your account remains configured optimally as your needs evolve.
Security Settings: Protecting Your Account
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for enhanced security using authenticator apps, SMS codes, or hardware security keys. Manage active sessions to see all devices where you're logged in and remotely log out suspicious sessions. Set up account recovery options including backup email addresses, phone numbers, and trusted contacts. Enable login alerts to receive notifications of new sign-ins. Use a strong, unique password and consider using a password manager for optimal security.
- Privacy Controls: Profile visibility, post privacy defaults, story settings, location sharing, activity status, and search visibility with granular control over each aspect

- Content Preferences: Manage blocked and muted users, filter sensitive content, hide specific words or phrases, and customize feed algorithms with explicit feedback
- Data Management: Download your data in machine-readable formats, view data usage and storage, manage cached content, and control data sharing with third parties
- Accessibility Options: Adjust text size, enable high contrast mode, configure screen reader settings, customize caption preferences, and modify interface animations
- Language and Region: Set interface language, content language preferences, regional settings for date/time formats, and currency display for monetization features

Account Recovery: Regaining Access to Your Account
If you lose access to your account, use the "Forgot Password" option on the login screen. Provide your email address or username, verify your identity through email or SMS code, create a new password, and optionally review recent account activity for suspicious behavior. If you can't access your recovery email or phone, contact support with identity verification information. Enable multiple recovery methods during account setup to prevent lockouts.
We believe that users should have complete control over their accounts, data, and digital identity. Our account management tools are designed to be comprehensive yet accessible, providing power users with granular control while maintaining simplicity for casual users. Your account is yours - we're just the platform that hosts it. You can modify, download, or delete your data at any time, and we're committed to respecting your choices about your digital presence.
Username Changes and Account Transfers: Usernames can be changed once every 90 days through account settings. Your previous username becomes available for others after 30 days. Username changes don't affect your followers, content, or account history. Account transfers (moving your account to a different email) require verification of both old and new email addresses. We don't support account merging or splitting - each account must remain independent to maintain platform integrity.
Deactivating vs. Deleting Your Account
Deactivation temporarily disables your account, hiding your profile and content while preserving your data for reactivation. Your username is reserved, and you can reactivate anytime by logging in. Deletion permanently removes your account and all associated data within 30 days. During the 30-day grace period, you can cancel deletion and restore your account. After 30 days, deletion is irreversible. Choose deactivation if you need a break but might return; choose deletion if you're permanently leaving Whistlr.
Account Verification: Blue Checkmark Process: Verified badges are available for notable public figures, brands, organizations, and creators who meet our verification criteria including authenticity (account represents real person/entity), uniqueness (only one account per entity), completeness (fully filled profile), and notability (significant public interest). Apply through account settings by providing verification documents, social media links, press coverage, or other evidence of notability. Review typically takes 7-14 days. Verification is free and cannot be purchased.
Privacy-Focused Account Management
Whistlr provides comprehensive privacy controls that go beyond basic settings. View and manage your ad preferences, control data used for personalization, see which apps have access to your account, review your activity history, and download complete records of your data. We provide transparency about data collection and use, clear explanations of privacy implications for each setting, and easy-to-use controls that put you in charge of your digital footprint.
Troubleshooting Common Account Issues: For login problems, verify your credentials, check for typos, ensure caps lock is off, and try password reset. For missing content, check privacy settings and ensure you're viewing the correct account. For performance issues, clear cache, update the app, or try a different device. For billing issues, verify payment method, check for declined charges, and review subscription status. Contact support for issues that persist after troubleshooting.
